Your New Hampshire Fishing Experience

We are a team of experienced anglers that provides regular fishing reports, detailing the best fishing spots, the latest catches, and the techniques that are working best for landing the biggest fish. Our New Hampshire fishing reports cover a variety of locations, from the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth to the Great Bay and beyond. We keep a close eye on the weather and the tides, providing up-to-date information that will help you plan the perfect fishing trip. We provide tips on the best baits and lures to use, as well as the best times of day and tide stages to fish for each species.

We get these questions a lot. What fish are being caught in Portsmouth? Where is best for fishing in Portsmouth? Are the stripers running in Maine yet? Well, Regarding the fish that are being caught in Portsmouth, it can vary depending on the season and location. However, some common fish species that can be caught in the Portsmouth area include striped bass and mackerel. Some popular fishing spots in the area include the Piscataqua River, Great Bay, Hampton Harbor, and Rye Harbor. Lastly, typically the striped bass run in Maine begins in late May or early June and continues through the summer months.

Our striped bass fishing season in New Hampshire typically runs from June 2nd to October 16th, with peak fishing occurring during the summer months. During the early season in June and July, striped bass can be found in the rivers and estuaries, where they spawn and feed on baitfish. This is a great time to use techniques like fly fishing, casting lures, and drifting live bait to target these fish. Check our website regularly for the latest updates and start planning your next New Hampshire fishing adventure today!

Piscataqua River - Rockingham, NH Fishing Report on 28th Jul, 2026

Colin and his son, Ryker, did a great job in the river this morning. Caught about 20 huge mackerel in the fog out a mile or so from the harbor. Then up the river for multiple bites, 1 28-inch, 2 31-inch, and one 38-inch striper boated and returned to the sea.

Piscataqua River - Rockingham, NH Fishing Report on 24th Jul, 2026

Kaelob and Cameron started the day with a good catch of mackerel a couple miles off 2KR. Then we headed up the river. The patrol boat at the Navy yard was more than vigilant and did not let us get close to where the fish were, so we went to another "secret spot" and Kaeleb actually saw a good sized striper follow and pull his mackerel twice (very clear water, about 8 feet deep). He did not hook up. But soon after, Cameron's reel went off singing and he landed a beautiful, fat 36-inch Striper! A beautiful day on the water.

Easy to get mackerel as bait a few miles from the harbor entrance. Then up the river to find stripers breaking the surface under the birds. A number of hookups and one 31-inch keeper made it a pretty good trip.

Striped Bass Thrills Await on Portsmouth's Prime Waters!

Alexander, Masa, and I headed out early in the morning for our summer fishing trip around Portsmouth waters. Partly cloudy skies with thunderstorms possible made for interesting conditions, but Kittery waters were fishable. Perfect setup for our 8-Hour Fishing for Striped Bass Adventure with Fish Taco.

We tried getting mackerel with "the fleet" at 2KR buoy, but no one was catching. So we moved 5 miles offshore to a "secret spot" I have, and we nailed it! We caught mackerel and pollack a 6-Sabiki-string-at-a-time. We had a couple of dozen live bait in less than 20 minutes. So we came back to the river for live-line mackerel fishing on a couple of rocks I know. Alex barely got his bait in the water, and a beautiful 30-inch striper grabbed it and swam. Alex landed the keeper. I doubled back onto the same rock, and Masa got a similar 30-inch striper. We hadn't fished 15 minutes, and we had 2 keepers! That's a first. What a hoot landing those stripers! It was 95 degrees out (cooler on the ocean), so the guys wanted to stop for lunch. They had an all-day trip (8 hours). We had a great lunch on the dock at BG's boathouse and resumed fishing for a couple of hours. No further bite. Water heated up too much is my guess. But those guys went home with close to 10 pounds of fresh striper filets for dinner.

If you're thinking about getting out on Portsmouth waters for some serious striper action, our 8-Hour Fishing for Striped Bass Adventure is the ticket. I run these trips regularly through Fish Taco, and the fishing around Portsmouth stays consistent through the summer. We cover all the techniques - fly fishing, live bait, and lures - so you get the full experience. Whether you're new to striped bass fishing or have been at it for years, Portsmouth inshore fishing delivers. The 7-8 hour trips give us plenty of time to work different spots and techniques until we find what's biting. Kittery waters hold good numbers of fish, and with partly cloudy conditions being typical, we get great fishing weather most days. Book your Portsmouth striped bass charter and let's get you hooked up with some quality fish!

Decent bite and happy crew! Summer fishing in Portsmouth NH was in full swing as I took Jim and his two teenage sons out for a day of inshore action with Fish Taco. they were avid feeshwater bass ans trout fishermen but never got a strioed bass in rbe ocean. The early morning start gave us a prime opportunity to get mackerel 6 at a time in the Sabiki rigs snd fill hontbe live well.

With our gear rigged and ready, we set out up the Piscataqua river to find the stripers. ss live lines the mackerel as bait. The highlight of our trip was when son William landed a solid string 28 inch striper - a great catch that put up an impressive fight on our light tackle. We kept at it, working different spots around Little Bay and adjusting our tactics based on where we were marking fish. The partly cloudy weather held steady, giving us comfortable conditions to fish all morning.

Our 5-hour charter flew by as we focused on the bite. While we didn't land monster numbers, the expressiin on William's face when he landed his biggest fish ever made for a memorable outing. Cast Away for an Adrenaline-Fueled Stripers and Mackerel Pursuit!

It was a beautiful June morning when we set out for our 4-Hour Striper and Mackerel Fishing Trip at the Portsmouth Marina. As the guide for Fish Taco, I always look forward to these trips - the summer months are prime time for striped bass fishing in these waters, and today's forecast of partly cloudy skies promised ideal conditions.

We met our anglers, a father and son from Philly, at the marina at 6 AM and got them set up with their gear. I could tell they were eager to get out on the water and try their hand at landing a big striper. We wasted no time heading out and started working the shoreline, for mackerel. we got a half dozen. then it was up rhe river to use the macs as bait for stripers. It wasn't long before one of our guests, a young man named Foster, had a solid hookup. He fought that fish hard, and I could see the excitement on his face as he reeled in his first big striped bass - a 32-inch beauty! After a few quick photos, we carefully released the fish, already planning our next cast.

As we headed back to the marina, our anglers were all smiles, excited about the fish they'd caught and the memories they'd made. That's what these trips are all about - creating unforgettable experiences on the water, whether you're a seasoned angler or picking up a rod for the first time. If you're looking to get in on the striper and mackerel action in Portsmouth, our 4-Hour and 6-Hour Striper Fishing Trips are the perfect way to do it. Chasing Stripers in the Sunny Shores of Portsmouth, NH fishing report coverpicture

Casting our Lines for Feisty Stripers on the Sunny Shores of Portsmouth

Water temp in low 40s on this trip. Generally too cold for a great bite, but Charles' son Nilos managed to get three great hits on a 9 inch white sluggo, and hooked one large striper. With a serious bend in the rod it looked like it would too 30 or more inches but it shook the hook when it reached the boat. Charles had a good bite in chunk mackerel but missed the hook set. These were fwo fun and enthusiastic fishermen. Charles said he will be booking s trip in a few weeks tomlearn how to flyfish for stripers. I welcome him back.

If you're looking for an awesome inshore fishing experience in the Portsmouth area, I highly recommend booking a 4 or 6-Hour Inshore Fishing Charter with Fish Taco. We'll put you on the fish using a variety of techniques, from fly fishing the flats to working structure with baitcast gear. Even if the bite is a little off, you're guaranteed to have a great time out on the water. The seasonal conditions, ideal habitat, and our local expertise will give you the best shot at some feisty Striped Bass, and you might even hook into a few other surprises along the way. So if you're ready to experience the thrill of inshore fishing in New Hampshire, get in touch and let's get you out on the water.
