Decent bite and happy crew! Summer fishing in Portsmouth NH was in full swing as I took Jim and his two teenage sons out for a day of inshore action with Fish Taco. they were avid feeshwater bass ans trout fishermen but never got a strioed bass in rbe ocean. We launched from Portsmouth Marina into Little Bay under partly cloudy skies, perfect conditions for targeting striped bass. The early morning start gave us a prime opportunity to get mackerel 6 at a time in the Sabiki rigs snd fill hontbe live well. With our gear rigged and ready, we set out up the Piscataqua river to find the stripers. ss live lines the mackerel as bait. The highlight of our trip was when son William landed a solid string 28 inch striper - a great catch that put up an impressive fight on our light tackle. We kept at it, working different spots around Little Bay and adjusting our tactics based on where we were marking fish. The partly cloudy weather held steady, giving us comfortable conditions to fish all morning.Our 5-hour charter flew by as we focused on the bite. While we didn't land monster numbers, the expressiin on William's face when he landed his biggest fish ever made for a memorable outing. Jim and Charlie got a couple good bites but didnt land their fish. Summer fishing in Portsmouth NH was in full swing as I took Matthew and their crew out for some inshore action with Fish Taco. We launched from Portsmouth Marina on a partly cloudy day, perfect conditions for targeting striped bass. The early morning start gave us a prime opportunity to hit the best spots before the day heated up.
With our gear rigged and ready, we set out to explore the productive waters around Portsmouth. We were going to catch some live mackerel for bait. The partly cloudy skies provided ideal conditions, keeping the fish active without the harsh glare of full sun.
LIve-lining the mackerel got us some nice hits and we boated one striper in the keeper range @ 29 inches.

It was a beautiful June morning when we set out for our 4-Hour Striper and Mackerel Fishing Trip at the Portsmouth Marina. Water temp in low 40s on this trip. Generally too cold for a great bite, but Charles' son Nilos managed to get three great hits on a 9 inch white sluggo, and hooked one large striper. With a serious bend in the rod it looked like it would too 30 or more inches but it shook the hook when it reached the boat. Charles had a good bite in chunk mackerel but missed the hook set. These were fwo fun and enthusiastic fishermen. Charles said he will be booking s trip in a few weeks tomlearn how to flyfish for stripers. I welcome him back. 2 Day Family Fishing Trip on TACO

Hard fishing one day, 2nd day the "bite was ON".  Day 1, 4-6 ft breaking waves. No way to go out on ocean to get live bait without getting soaked, and it was cold and rainy, East wind.  We got 5+ takes but only landed one Keeper, which they took for dinner.  Our intrepid family fished on!  2nd day, everyone got fish, a number of keepers and our young boy guest caught 3 keeper-sized (28"-31") Stripers on super light tackle rod with a top-water plastic bait. What a hoot!

<div>classic technique. we snagged pogies with a treble hook. then cut them in half and lowered them with a weight below the 100s of pogies and hooked a 38 inch striper wirhin 2 seconds.&nbsp;</div>

Just one keeper...but a good one!

Worked hard to get this nice fish. Went all the way 9 miles offshore to the Isles of Shoals (we heard there might be a bite going on there). But the Shoals had nothing going on.  Super quiet.  Mackerel were hard to find too. Only put 3 in the livewell.  But on returning to the river, we scouted out this nice 28" keeper who slammed a live mackerel right on top of the water in only about 5 feet depth. It was a hoot to see that fish chase down the mackerel, right on top.

Caught 4 Stripers in the 30 inch range in the rocks off Jenness Beach, Rye, NH, and at the mouth of the Piscataqua River, Porstmouth, and off the rocks in Kittery, Maine.

Fish were busting out at high tide and sunset at Little Harbor.  Top water action on soft plastic lure.

Family from Canada

A fishing-crazy family - Dad, Mom, and 2 young boys came all the way from Saskatchewan, Canada to fish for their first striped bass.  And TACO didn't disappoint.  Everyone got good-sized fish (averaging 27 inches).  The total was 6 stripers caught from the mouth of the river up to the Memorial Bridge.

Steady Strioer Action

Stripers are IN!

Easy getting mackerel at bouy 2KR (5 on a string almost every time).  Then used live mackerel to catch 5 stripers in the river and Great Bay ranging from 24 - 28 inches.

Took an early morning scouting trip today at 5:30 in a pretty steady rain to see what's happening. Some bunker and baitfish in the river and backchannels, some terns diving on them, but only a couple top water striper schoolies to see.  Rosie the fish-sniffin' dog went crazy smellin' some baitfish oil slicks.  Didn't try to get mackerel so don't know about live bait.

New Hampshire Fishing Report for 2023 Season

We are excited to welcome the 2023 Striper season in the coming months, beginning in June. The season for striped bass in New Hampshire with Fish Taco runs from June 2 to October 16.

I've been using a variety of fishing techniques to target striped bass, including live mackerel bait, lures, and swim bait. Fishing the river, and inshore waters around Portsmouth,  has been finding plenty of fish ready for the upcoming season. Striped Bass can range in size from a few pounds to over 40 pounds, so be ready for some fishing action!
